Whoo Hoo! Today I was featured on Carter Higgins "Design of the Picture Book" blog. What a nice way to start the day! http://designofthepicturebook.com/2012/10/26/sophies-fish/.

Here's two paintings I did for my MFA graduate studies. These are portraits done in the "push pin studios" style of the 50's. What a great era for illustration! I had such a good time working on these and could see bringing a bit more of this feel to my illustration work.

Here's a little sample of what my thumbnail sketches look like when I'm working on a book project. They are small and messy, but really help me figure out what I'm trying to say! : )

Wow, it's been a little while since I updated my blog. I've got to be better about that but it's hard to do with a busy schedule. Anyhoo, here's a new cover image for this months Cricket magazine. They are a great client and one I work for quite a lot. I also just finished another cover for the Feb. issue of Ladybug. I'll post that when it hits the stands too. : )

Kirkus Starred Review!

Whoo hoo! I found out that my current book, SOPHIE'S FISH, received a starred review from Kirkus. For those of you who may not be familiar with Kirkus, they are notoriously difficult to get a good review from. I'm super excited that they liked this book.

If you haven't picked up a copy of SOPHIE'S FISH, you really need to run out RIGHT NOW and buy one to see what all the fuss is about! : )

I will have signed copies if you want to buy one from me. Just email me and we can work out the details.

Hey everyone, I will
be teaching an intermediate watercolor workshop out of my studio on Saturday June 16th. I'll make a more formal flyer, but I just wanted to give the heads up for now. Only 8 spots total, so let me know if you are interested. It will run from 12-5pm and cost $200. Topics will include painting skies, mulitmedia approaches, city scenes, nature scenes. I will do a demo for each scene and then I'll walk you through it.

Rodeo

Here's a painting I did today in watercolor. It's for an assignment for the Master's Degree program I'm doing. This is the 1st of a series of five bull riding images. This isn't something I'd normally paint, so it's a fun challenge!

Emo in LA

Today's effort. This is about how much it would suck to be a goth kid growing up in Los Angeles. Hard to be emo when it's so sunny outside! : )

Dr. Seuss Tribute show

Here's my three paintings for the Dr. Seuss Tribute show at Nucleus gallery (Los Angeles). They are done in acrylic, ink and collage on deep wooden boxes. Very fun to do. Not so fun to ship...

Give me a shout if you happen to make it to the gallery opening on March 3rd. I'd love to hear how it went. Here's a link: http://www.gallerynucleus.com/gallery/exhibition/311

Those damn birds

Mr. Anderson had everything under control. Except the birds. Those damn birds...
